Everton are keen to wrap up the signing of Burnley defender Michael Keane by the end of this week, according to the Mail.

The newspaper claim that the Merseysiders have yet to make a breakthrough in negotiations with Burnley over a deal for the £25million-rated centre-back.

The Mail claim manager Ronald Koeman is still prioritising Keane, 24, but Las Palmas defender Mauricio Lemos is also on his radar.

It is said that the versatile Uruguay Under-23 international can be prised from his club if his release clause of £26million is activated.

Koeman is targeting an enforcer in central defence after sanctioning the big-money arrivals for £53.6million of Jordan Pickford and Davy Klaassen earlier this month.

Should Everton succeed in landing Keane it would take their summer spending to date close to the £80million mark.

The England international was a mainstay for Burnley last season, making 39 appearances in all competitions last season as they punched above their weight to maintain their Premier League status.

But with Keane out of contract at the end of next season, Burnley may prefer to strike a deal this summer to secure on considerable profit on the player rather than losing him on a free in a year’s time.
