Manchester United ace Matteo Darmian has pleaded with manager Jose Mourinho to allow him to join Juventus this summer, according to a Sun report.

The newspaper claims the Serie A giants see the 27-year-old full-back as the perfect replacement for the outgoing Dani Alves.

It is said Darmian rang Mourinho in an attempt to force through a move to the Serie A champions, as he hopes more playing time will help him to secure a spot in Italy’s 2018 World Cup squad.

The report claims Mourinho wants him to stay but won’t guarantee that he would be in the United first XI.

The report states the move would be a season-long loan initially, with the option for Juventus to make it a permanent switch worth £17.5million after a year.

This comes after a previous Sun report claimed the Italian giants were interested in acquiring Darmian’s services this summer.

The 27-year-old was a mainstay of United’s back line last term, making 29 appearances in all competitions.

He arrived at Old Trafford from Torino in the summer of 2015 in a deal worth £15million, and he has since played 68 league and cup games for the club.

The Italian defender is comfortable at right-back and left-back, and he has been known to fill in at centre-back as well.

Darmian has been capped by Italy on 30 occasions, and he played the full 90 minutes in their 5-0 World Cup qualifying thrashing of Liechtenstein earlier this month.
