Former Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood believes that the ex-Chelsea captain John Terry would be a great addition at Villa Park and that the defender won’t feel like he’s “going to a smaller club.”

The Chelsea legend has been linked to Aston Villa and reports have suggested that boss Steve Bruce is expecting to hear about Terry’s decision next week.

Sherwood managed Villa from February 2015, and led the club to their first FA Cup final since the year 2000 before being sacked and succeeded by Remi Garde in the October of 2015.

The 48-year-old told Sky Sports HQ that he thought Terry would fit in well in Steve Bruce’s squad, and was quoted saying: “I think both would be married up very well. John’s an excellent professional, not only in what he will bring on the pitch, but what he will bring to the dressing room.

“He will make other players around him better. They need some leaders there and certainly there are no bigger leaders than John Terry.”

Terry would be bringing his 22 years of experience from Chelsea, where he made 690 appearances for the club and provided 65 goals for the Blues.

The former Villa manager continued to tell Sky Sports that the move from Stamford Bridge to Villa Park wouldn’t feel like moving to a smaller club for the centre-back: “Every club needs those characters, certainly a huge cub like Aston Villa with the fan base that they’ve got. Certainly John won’t feel like he’s going to a smaller club.”

The former England skipper was first linked with Villa after the 36-year-old played golf with Steve Bruce, yet other clubs are interested.

Sky Sports previously reported that Villa’s rivals, Birmingham, had also made an offer for the defender.
