Chelsea have agreed a deal with AS Monaco to sign defensive midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko which has paved the way for Nemanja Matic to join Manchester United, according to the Times.

The newspaper claims that the Premier League champions are set to splash out £36million for the 23-year-old this summer.

It is understood that personal terms are still yet to be agreed with the player but a deal is expected to be completed within the next couple of days.

The Frenchman was in sensational form last season as he helped Monaco secure the league title for the first time in seventeen years, making a total of 47 appearances.

The report also claims that manager Antonio Conte is looking to rebuild the squad over the summer transfer window and he is willing to let Matic leave the club in order to speed up the Bakayoko deal.

The Times reports that Conte is hopeful that Matic’s departure from Stamford Bridge will be enough to persuade Spaniard Cesc Fabregas to remain at the club next season.

Matic is being heavily linked with a reunion with former boss Jose Mourinho although the report claims that Serie A champions Juventus have been keeping an eye on the midfielder for around a year too.

Matic has enjoyed a successful career at Stamford Bridge so far, winning two league titles over the last three seasons and making a total of 154 appearances.
