Bournemouth are on the brink of signing Chelsea central defender Nathan Ake on a permanent deal, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims that the Cherries are set to splash out more than £20million for the 22-year-old defender after missing out on signing former Chelsea captain John Terry.

A source is quoted in the Sun as saying: “It should be done when the player gets back from his holiday next month.”

Bournemouth reportedly offered the Premier League champions £18million for Ake during the January transfer window but it was rejected.

The report claims that Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is happy to offload the defender as he looks to lure Southampton captain Virgil Van Dijk alongside Juventus duo Leonardo Bonucci and Alex Sandro to Stamford Bridge this summer.

The youngster enjoyed a great loan spell with Bournemouth last season, making a total of 12 appearances in all competitions.

Ake scored three goals for the club, including a dramatic late winner in the 4-3 league victory over Liverpool in December.

The Dutchman was recalled to Chelsea in January but he failed to become a first-team regular as he only featured in five matches in all competitions.

Ake’s current contract at Stamford Bridge expires in 2020.
