Aston Villa have drawn Colchester United in the forthcoming Carabao League Cup – and fans on Twitter have provided mixed views.
Steve Bruce’s side have been paired with the League Two outfit in the South section of the draw with the tie to be played on the week commencing August 7 at the Colchester Community Stadium.
Championship side Villa enter the first round hoping to avoid an upset after their humiliating defeat against Luton Town last season.

The League Two side inflicted a 3-1 defeat on Villa, who were then managed by Roberto Di Matteo following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.
Nonetheless, the Villa supporters were not looking forward to the long trip to Essex, with their opponents finishing in the top eight during the recently concluded League Two campaign.
By contrast, Bruce, who joined the Midlands outfit in October, could only guide his team to a bottom half finish as they will be one of the favourites to earn promotion to the Premier League next term.
One fan stated that Villa don’t have a strong record when it comes to playing the lower league sides in cup competitions as the supporters are hoping to avoid an upset.
It is highly likely that Bruce will field a weakened team against Colchester, with the former Hull City boss looking to prioritise the Championship ahead of a tough campaign.
