Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain believes England manager Gareth Southgate and Arsenal’s senior man Arsene Wenger both like to give youngsters an opportunity to shine.

The 23-year-old winger was talking about how the duo compare, with 46-year-old Southgate most recently being appointed England boss.

The former centre-back has proven during his time as national manager that he is willing to give the younger players the chance to prove themselves, with teenager Marcus Rashford a prime example.

Wenger, who has been Arsenal manager for 21-years, has been bringing through youngsters at the north London club for a number of years.

Versatile attacker Oxlade-Chamberlain moved to the Emirates Stadium from Southampton as a teenager and he is now an established player in the first team.

The Southampton academy product spoke highly about his two managers, who have played a big part in his career so far.

“They’re both great managers,” said Oxlade-Chamberlain, as quoted by the London Evening Standard. “Gareth is really well connected to the younger players and I guess that’s the main similarity with Arsene.

“Clearly he, just like Arsene, gives the young players a platform to go on and hopefully do good things.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain is currently on international duty with England where he helped his country record a 2-2 draw against Scotland at the weekend.

The Arsenal man came off the bench to open the scoring during the World Cup qualifier at Hampden, with Tottenham striker Harry Kane eventually netting a stoppage-time equaliser for his side.

During the recently concluded season, Oxlade-Chamberlain played 45 matches for Wenger, scoring six goals and supplying 11 assists.
