David James believes Tottenham fans will instantly jump on Arsenal supporters if they start being negative towards Arsene Wenger next season.

The Frenchman, who signed a new two-year deal at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, has come under increasing pressure this term for the manner in which he has performed as the manager.

Wenger’s failure to win the Premier League title since 2004 added with his side’s consistently poor performances in the Champions League, has resulted in his own fans calling for him to quit the club.

Former England goalkeeper James believes if the Arsenal faithful don’t get behind their team from the off next season then their rivals will have something to cheer about.

“If you want Arsenal to fail next season then all you fans need to do is turn up the first couple of games and be a little negative towards him,” James told Arsenal Fan TV’s YouTube channel.

“As soon as Arsenal fans start bringing in the negativity, and believe me you have got a right to say what you want, your rivals across a couple of streets are always going to jump on it.”

Wenger has been at Arsenal since 1996 and is set to extend his 21-year reign in north London, which has seen him win three Premier League titles.

Added with that, he guided his team to the FA Cup this season, the seventh time the Frenchman has won the trophy during his time at the club.

Despite that, Arsenal suffered a number of costly defeats against the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham during the campaign, which resulted in them missing out on a top-four place.

For the first time during his tenure, Wenger will start a season without any Champions League football and instead, he will be participating in the Europa League.
