Newcastle United should do everything within their power to bring Leicester City striker Leonardo Ulloa to the club in the summer transfer window.

The 30-year-old striker only started three Premier League matches for the Foxes last season as he suffered from a public falling out with former boss Claudio Ranieri.

But Ulloa is an aerial beast and could be snapped up in the coming weeks for a bargain fee given his contract situation.

It is no secret that Rafa Benitez is looking to sign new recruits in the summer and the Argentinian forward would be a great addition to the squad.

The Tyneside club should already know about what he could bring to the table as the striker scored against them two seasons ago as Leicester left St James’ Park with a 3-0 victory.

Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez were undoubtedly the star men for the Foxes during their Premier League winning campaign in the 2015-16 season, but Ulloa’s influence must not be overlooked as he contributed with important goals in the title run.

The previous season, the striker was one of the main reasons why Leicester survived in the top flight as he scored 11 goals in his first ever season in the Premier League.

The current crop of Newcastle forwards do not pose a serious aerial threat with the likes of Dwight Gayle and Ayoze Perez preferring the ball into feet or running in-behind defences.

Ulloa could offer Benitez an imposing presence up front and look to bully defenders with his strength and his fantastic hold-up ability to bring others into play.

The move should also not been seen as a gamble as it would make more sense to sign a player who has played in the Premier League for three seasons rather than take a chance on someone who might need some time to adjust to English football.

The striker’s current contract at the King Power Stadium runs out in 2018 so a huge amount of money would not need to be spent in order to acquire his services this summer.
