Ex-Rangers forward Steven Naismith has warned that Scottish Football will suffer if Celtic continue to be so dominant, in an interview with BBC Scotland.

Scottish giants Celtic completed a successful domestic treble under the leadership of Brendan Rodgers, and didn’t lose a single domestic match last season.

However Naismith said:  “Celtic won the league at a canter and the fan base, everything, will just die away if that continues.”

Naismith told the BBC that if Celtic continue to win by 30 points each season Scottish football will be boring and added “Scottish football needs strong teams at the top”.

Naismith also claimed that boss Pedro Caixinha needs to make the right recruitments to shake up Scottish football next season.

The 30-year old insists that Scottish teams, especially his old club, must step up to liven up the game again and added: “For Rangers to be that far behind Aberdeen and Celtic isn’t acceptable

“When you think back to when Hearts were challenging Celtic and Rangers for the title [2005/06], it was so exciting and it gets many more fans involved.”

So far Caixinha has made a promising start to summer, signing Portuguese defender Bruno Alves and Aberdeen midfielder Ryan Jack.

These signings follow Rangers’ disappointing first season back in the Premiership, when they finished a staggering 39 points behind rivals Celtic.
