Thomas Christiansen must rival Championship duo Derby and Aston Villa, and try and sign Stoke’s Glenn Whelan this summer.

The Daily Mail claim both Championship sides are keen on the tough-tackling midfielder, with £1million said to be enough to sign the 33-year-old midfielder.

Christiansen, 44, held his first press conference as manager of the Yorkshire club on Monday afternoon and hinted that he wants his side to keep the ball under control and look to keep command in matches.

The former APOEL Nicosia manager spoke about his preferred style live on Leeds’ Facebook page, stating that he had used similar systems in his previous spells of management.

“I have followed the English leagues since I was a boy and I know how to play over here,” Christensen said. “I try to dominate games, have control of it but if we need to play 4-4-2 we can do that as well.”

This Is Futbol analyses three reasons why rivalling Derby and Aston Villa for the Ireland international would see Christiansen make the perfect start to life as Leeds manager.
