Leeds fans react to confirmation of Monk’s appointment

Ex-Leeds United manager Garry Monk has been confirmed as Middlesborough’s new boss – and fans of the Yorkshire giants are less than supportive.

Middlesbrough announced the appointment on the club’s official Twitter account on Friday with a statement that they were “delighted to confirm” that Monk would be at the helm of the club next season.

Garry Monk was previously admired at Leeds after he brought an end to a slew of managers and successfully drove the club to finish seventh in the Championship table.

Leeds fans now appear to be less than supportive of their former boss’ new appointment and while some declared their disappointment, others looked to defeating Middlesbrough when Monk returns to Elland Road with his new team.

Monk was appointed on a one-year rolling contract at Elland Road last summer, and had been expected by fans to sign a new deal with Leeds under club owner Andrea Radrizzani.

However, after the pair failed to reach an agreement the former Swansea manager left the dugout.

The ex-Leeds boss will now go on to manager newly-relegated side Middlesbrough, who have been without a permanent manager since March when Aitor Karanka made an exit from the club.

The 38-year-old will remain managing in the Championship meaning that the young boss will meet his former team during the season and ultimately face the wrath of the fans who once trusted him.
