Former Celtic midfielder Kris Commons has spoken about how the fans made his time at the club so special for him and his family.

During an interview for the official club website he stated: “It’s been more than a football career, it’s been about creating a family life which has blossomed in Glasgow.

“I gave a little bit of my time playing football and doing what I did on the football field, but what the fans gave me in return, I will be forever in their debt. How they made me fell and how they made my family welcome.”

The interview took place following the 33-year old’s departure from the Scottish club when his contract ended last week after manager Brendan Rodgers decided not to renew.

Commons joined Celtic Park back in 2011 from Derby County and during his time made 226 appearances, scoring 96 goals.

The 33-year-old had a brief loan spell at Hibernian last season, where he scored two goals in five appearances.

His time at Celtic ended on a high as part of a treble-winning squad that didn’t lose a domestic game all season.

Commons never played in the Premier League but did enjoy time in the English Championship with Derby and Nottingham Forest.

His loyalty will always lie with Celtic now though, and Commons added: “I came as a professional footballer and I am now one of them. I am a proper Celtic fan.”
