Newly promoted club Huddersfield are closing in on a club-record deal of £10 million for Manchester City midfielder Aaron Mooy, according to TalkSPORT.

TalkSPORT claims that Huddersfield are in the advanced stages of the deal which will cost £8 million for Mooy, plus £2 million in add-ons, which will be the most the club has ever paid for a player.

The club’s previous biggest spend stood at £1.8 million for defender Christopher Schindler, which they paid to 1860 Munich last summer.

The 26-year-old joined Pep Guardiola’s side a year ago, and was loaned to Huddersfield very shortly after his arrival.

The Australian international made a vital contribution to the Terriers’ return to the Premier League for the first time in 45 years and was also made the club’s player of the year.

Mooy contributed during two of the play-off penalty shoot-outs for the club, which saw them return to the top flight, in addition to making 45 Championship appearances for the Terriers.

However, despite moving to Manchester City from sister club Melbourne City, the Australian is yet to make an appearance for City, as he headed to the Kirklees Stadium to play under David Wagner shortly after moving to the Emirates.

The midfielder now looks to be making more of a permanent appearance with the Town as they begin their 2017/18 Premier League campaign and will be facing City in late November as an opponent.
