Everton’s director of football Steve Walsh is in Italy to discuss a potential £13.2million move for striker M’baye Niang, according to CalcioMercato.

The Italian football news website claim that a contingent from the Merseyside club, including senior man Walsh, arrived in Italy on Tuesday to discuss the transfer of the French forward.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio posted a photo on his Personal Twitter account of Walsh in Italy, as he prepared to meet with officials from the Italian club.

CalcioMercato’s report claims that 22-year-old Niang, who is renowned for his blistering pace, is not set to feature in the future plans of Milan boss Vincenzo Montella and as such are willing to let him depart the San Siro.

The site claim that the Italian side are looking for a fee of around £15.8million (€18million) for the forward, who can play anywhere across the front three, but are willing to accept an offer of £13.2million (€15million) from Everton as a result of the positive relationship the two clubs share.

Niang scored three goals in 18 league appearances for Milan in the first half of the season, before he was shipped out on loan to Everton’s Premier League rivals Watford in January.

Former Genoa loanee Niang, who has two years remaining on his contract, has plummeted down the pecking order at Milan with Vincenzo Montella preferring the likes of Suso, Giacomo Bonaventura and Keisuke Honda.

However he appeared to struggle just as much at the Hornets, managing to net just twice in 16 appearances, but it appears his poor form has not deterred the Toffees from making a move for the versatile attacker.
