Former England manager Sven-GoranEriksson has offered his views on Manchester United’s captain Wayne Rooney moving to a Chinese club this summer.

Rooney’s ex-England boss has claimed the 31-year-old would have a positive experience if he was to venture across the globe.

The manager was quoted in the Manchester Evening News saying: “I haven’t spoken to Rooney for a long time, so I don’t know what he is thinking, but if he went to China I think he would have a positive experience.

“He has a young family but there are international schools in the big cities and I know for sure he would have every help possible to make him settle. He would be made very welcome.”

The 69-year-old made the move to China in 2013 after accepting the managerial role at Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Z&F.

Since then, the Swede has since managed Shanghai SIPG and most recently China League One club Shenzhen FC, before being sacked a few weeks ago.

Speaking from his experience, the ex-England manager told the MEN about the language barrier and how Rooney would be taken care of: “The only problem you have is the language,

“But if you live in Shanghai or Beijing you have a lot of foreign people, so it is less of an issue.

“And, don’t forget, the players get treated well. They have everything they need and are very well looked after, so for someone like Rooney or Diego Costa that would not be a problem.”

Rooney has been linked with an exit from Old Trafford after the Daily Mail claimed that the United skipper had received two £50million offers from Chinese Super League clubs.

The striker has also been linked with a move back to his boyhood club Everton.

The England international joined the Manchester side in 2003, but after nearly 14 years with the club he is thought to want leave this summer after slipping down in Jose Mourinho’s pecking order.

If he does stay, a report in the Sun claims that Rooney will be stripped of the United captaincy for next season.
