Clive Allen believes that Tottenham striker Harry Kane has the potential to surpass the 50-goal mark in a single season.

Allen currently holds the record of scoring the most goals in a single season for the North London club, when he notched up 49 goals during the 1986-87 campaign.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the former Tottenham man believes that the Englishman has every chance of breaking his record in the future even though Allen jokingly admits that he does not want to see it happen.

“1986-87 was a phenomenal season and one I’ll never forget,” he said.

“Whether or not anyone beats it… I’ll be honest, I hope they don’t!

“But if anyone can, it will be Harry, for sure. He’s in the best place to score goals – anything is possible!”

Since breaking into the Tottenham first-team at the end of the 2013-14 season, the 23-year-old has become one of the finest strikers in the country and he has almost single-handedly turned Spurs into title contenders.

The England international has been the club’s top goalscorer for the past three consecutive seasons, notching up a total of 94 goals in all competitions in the process.

The striker is just one away from scoring 100 goals for the North London side.

Kane has also won the past two Premier League Golden Boot awards and last season, he surpassed his own personal best by scoring 29 goals in 31 league appearances.

The Englishman only needs to score 21 more league goals to surpass Teddy Sheringham and become the club’s all-time leading goalscorer in the Premier League.
