Everton winger Aiden McGeady is seen as a player that has bags of potential but no end product or consistency to his game.

Despite being a senior player, he found himself out on loan at Championship side Preston North End during the recently concluded season.

The 31-year-old Premier League man last made an appearance for Everton in August 2015, which clearly suggests that he is not favoured at Goodison Park.

Therefore, with one year left on his current deal, Villa and Steve Bruce should make the bold move in signing him this summer.

Firstly, his parent club would not demand a big fee for their player and he would bring something different to Villa’s attacking line.

During his time at Preston last season, McGeady scored eight goals and supplied nine assists for a team that were underdogs for the majority of the games they played in.

Jonathan Kodjia, who scored 19 goals for Villa last term, was the club’s standout player because he expressed himself on the ball and liked beating his man with sheer skill and trickery.

McGeady may not be able to provide a big goal return, but he is known for his ability to beat his player from anywhere on the pitch.

One area in which Villa struggled in last season, was the wide areas. Only Albert Adomah produced the goods for his side, therefore, adding McGeady to the club’s ranks would help increase the attacking intent from the wings.

He may be a luxury player, but as Kodjia has proven, those types of players are helping Villa perform.
