Leeds United midfielder Ronaldo Vieira admits the first-team squad are “excited” to see what manager Thomas Christiansen can bring to the club.

Christiansen was named as the new manager at Elland Road earlier this month, ending a prolonged search for a new head coach following the resignation of Garry Monk in May.

The former Barcelona striker arrives at the Championship club from Cypriot outfit APOEL, and has already begun to invest his own ideas and knowledge into the first-team squad.

He has also opened his account in the summer transfer market, making Poland midfielder Mateusz Klich his first signing for the club, with several more fresh faces set to follow.

But further changes can be expected over the coming months, and Vieira – one of Leeds’ unsung heroes from the 2016-17 campaign – has revealed there is a keen sense of intrigue after Christiansen’s arrival.

He told LUFC TV: “He did say quite good things about us. He’s got his own ideas, and we’ll see how he’s going to improve the squad.

“He’s got his own ideas, but if he needs to change he might do a few bits and pieces. But he’s good.”

“I think everyone is excited to see what he brings into the team, and to see if we can get back to where we belong.”

Vieira’s comments come after he met with Christiansen for the first time since his appointment, having spent the summer with England at the Toulon Tournament, but he insists he made a decent first impression.

The midfielder, who is just 18-years-old, played a key role under Monk at the club last season, making 38 appearances in all competitions.

He was a regular figure in the Leeds midfield, keeping some of the club’s more experienced faces out of the starting line-up, which is testament to the youngster’s talents.

However, It remains to be seen what role Vieira will play under the new manager, particularly following the arrival of Klich this month.

The bigger picture though, will see Christiansen looking to pick up where Monk left off and mount a serious promotion challenge in their bid to return to the Premier League.

Leeds finished seventh under Monk last season, after a poor run of form at the end of the campaign saw them drop out of the promotion race, and finish outside the play-offs.
