David Prutton believes Leeds will have a new manager by next Friday with pre-season looming ahead of the new Championship campaign.

Many teams prefer to start pre-season at the start of July, with the Football League beginning their campaign one week before the Premier League.

Leeds are one of a number of clubs looking to add a new manager to their ranks following the shock resignation of Garry Monk last month.

The 38-year-old departed Elland Road after one season in charge, helping them secure a top-seven finish with many fans disappointed at his decision to leave.

Nonetheless, his departure has left the door open for someone else to take the reigns at the Yorkshire club and Prutton thinks owner Andrea Radrizzani is edging closer to naming that person.

“Something tells me that by this time next week we’ll have a new manager at Leeds United,” Prutton told the Yorkshire Post. “Or if not an official appointment, as near as dammit to Garry Monk’s replacement.”

Italian businessman Radrizzani, who joined Leeds in January, completed his full takeover of the club two days before Monk opted to leave.

Radrizzani will now be hoping to appoint a manager that can build on the success that Monk brought to the club despite the disappointing end to the season.

The club’s chief will, however, have to battle it out with the likes of Hull, Sunderland and Middlesbrough, who are also looking for a new face to sit in their dugout.

All three sides were relegated from the Premier League, with the Black Cats finishing bottom of the table.
