The odds have tumbled on Espanyol manager Quique Sanchez Flores taking the reins at Leeds United.

Sky Bet priced the 52-year-old as 7/2 third favourite for the vacant Elland Road post on Monday night, narrowly behind Alan Pardew, whose price has drifted to 3/1, and favourite Victor Sanchez, who has odds of 7/4.

Sanchez Flores, who is one of four Spaniards in the top seven of the betting race, is well known to English audiences for his season at the helm at Watford in 2015-16, when he steered the minnows to a creditable mid-table finish and the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

He also has a fine track record in Spain, where he has managed big guns Atletico Madrid and Valencia, and Portugal, where he steered Benfica to a third-placed league finish.

Sanchez Flores is currently in charge at Catalan outfit Espanyol, who he guided to eighth place in the highly competitive La Liga in the recently completed domestic season.

The odds on the Spaniard taking over at Leeds have narrowed considerably in the last 24 hours, with his price at 18/1 on Sunday evening to land the post.

His fellow Spaniards Victor Sanchez and Aitor Karanka have also been heavily linked with the Leeds role following the appointment of his ex-Middlesbrough colleague Victor Orta as the director of football.

Elland Road owner Andrea Radrizzani revealed on Twitter last week that the club were to begin interviewing candidates for the vacant post as he insisted that time will be taken to find the correct candidate.

Monk resigned as Leeds manager at the end of last month and has subsequently been appointed as the new manager of recently relegated Middlesbrough.
