Huddersfield are in the box seat to sign Leeds United striker Chris Wood for £15million this summer, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim the Premier League new boys are the “surprise favourite” to win a seven-club chase for the 2016-17 Championship leading scorer.

The Sun report that Crystal Palace, Swansea, Stoke, West Ham, West Brom and Southampton are all keeping close tabs on the New Zealand international, who scored 30 goals last season, 27 of which came in the league.

It is said that Huddersfield lead the race to sign Wood for £15million and will not be put off by either the player’s price tag or wage demands after securing a huge windfall for securing promotion via the play-off final.

David Wagner’s side are aiming to steal a march on their rivals by tabling a huge bid for the prolific front man.

Leeds are vulnerable to losing their prize asset after finishing in seventh position just outside the play-off spots to condemn the club to another season in the second tier.

Wood, who joined the Yorkshire giants for £3million from Leicester and has two years remaining on his contract, has spoken of his disappointment at the recent exit of Garry Monk, who was appointed by Middlesbrough on Friday.
