Leeds United have completed the signing of Werder Bremen goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald, it has been confirmed.

The Championship side announced on their official club website and Twitter account on Friday afternoon that the 27-year-old had put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal at Elland Road.

England international goalkeeper Rob Green was the first-choice stopper at Leeds last season, but Wiedwald has been brought in to increase the competition for the number one jersey ahead of the new season.

Wiedwald signs from German Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen for an undisclosed fee, and becomes the second senior signing of the summer for new Leeds manager Thomas Christiansen.

However, reliable journalist Adam Pope, who works for BBC Sport, claimed on his personal Twitter account following confirmation of the deal that a fee could be worth between just £400,000 and £500,000.

The stopper kept just five clean sheets from 26 appearances in all competitions last season, as Bremen finished eighth in the Bundesliga in 2016-17.

However, despite his regular first-team role, Pope has also claimed that Wiedwald had grown unhappy at the club ahead of his proposed move to Leeds.

Pope suggested on Twitter on Thursday afternoon that the player was frustrated at the club’s decision to sign another goalkeeper in Jiri Pavlenka.

Leeds have already completed the signing of midfielder Mateusz Klich from FC Twente, while they had earlier snapped up on loan attacker Hadi Sacko on a permanent deal.

Young midfielder Madger Gomes has also signed for the club this summer, following his release by Liverpool, but the 20-year-old has been drafted straight into the Under-23 setup.
