Nottingham Forest youngster Ben Brereton has committed his long-term future to the club, it has been confirmed.

The Championship club announced on their official website and Twitter account on Thursday afternoon that the 18-year-old had put pen-to-paper on a new long-term deal that runs until the summer of 2021.

Brereton swiftly became a fan favourite after bursting onto the scene at the troubled Midlands club last season, playing an important role as they narrowly avoided relegation to League One.

The club’s Championship survival was one of the most pressing concerns for manager Mark Warburton, who was thrown in at the deep end when he took over at the City Ground in March.

But retaining the services of one of his most prized assets this summer in Brereton was also an item at the top of the agenda, and fans will be delighted to see the youngster tied down for another four years.

The teenage sensation made his senior debut for the club as a second-half substitute during the 2-0 defeat to Leeds United on January 25, and went on to make 18 first-team appearances.

He scored three goals and supplied four assists for Forest last term, netting his first goal for the club in a 2-1 win over Aston Villa in only his third senior outing.

Brereton’s blistering start to his senior career saw him attracted reported interest from a host of Premier League clubs, with the Sun claiming Liverpool were eyeing a £10million move in March.

However, his fresh new agreement sees him commit his long-term future to Nottingham Forest and put an end to all speculation linking him with a move away this summer.
