Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness has been handed a three-week suspension from all footballing activity, it has been confirmed.

The Football Association revealed on their official website on Thursday that the Villa chief had been handed a three-week ban due to a breach of conduct via social media.

Wyness was found guilty of misconduct after admitting to an FA charge relating to a comment he had shared on Twitter. which was accompanied by a video that was deemed to have had inappropriate content.

The video was deemed as a breach of FA Rule E3 (1), which relates to content that is “abusive and/or insulting and/or improper and/or brought the game into disrepute.”

The Aston Villa senior man must also pay a fine worth £10,000, after a ruling by the Independent Regulatory Commission, where it was also ordered that Wyness would complete an education course.

He was also found to be in breach of FA rule E3 (2), as the Twitter post included a reference to disability.

Wyness is still able to appeal the FA’s verdict, with his three-week ban set to commence from the date upon which his period to appeal will expire.

The 59-year-old has also since made alterations to the biography on his personal Twitter profile, which had earlier read: “CEO at Aston Villa. Trying to get AV back to where it belongs, at the top.”

However, he has moved to add an additional statement in relation to his FA misconduct charge, which reads: “Retweets are not an endorsement of the content.”

Wyness was appointed as chief executive at Aston Villa last summer following the club’s relegation from the Premier League, having previously held CEO roles at Aberdeen and Everton.
