Leeds United striker Marcus Antonsson has revealed there has been a “lot of interest” from clubs keen to sign him this summer.

But the Swedish front man, 26, insisted he has no plans to quit Elland Road as he explained he wants to stay and fight for his place next season.

Antonsson joined United last summer from Kalmar FF for a fee of around £2million after an impressive debut season in the Swedish top flight.

But struggled to make an impression in the Championship and had a difficult campaign in which he did not feature after 29 January despite being available for selection.

Speaking in his homeland, Antonsson gave an update on his future after being strongly linked with an exit from the Yorkshire giants.

“There has been a lot of interest, but it was never up to me on my side,” Antonsson told Swedish newspaper Hallandsposten.

“I’m not the kind that gives up and starts to whine and leave.

“I was in a similar position at Halmstads but got out of it and it has taken me here.”

Antonsson made 21 appearances for Leeds in all competitions in the recently completed season, scoring three goals and providing one assist.
He fell so far down the pecking order that he struggled to make the matchday squad in the final months of the campaign and was even selected for the Under-23s on a number of occasions.
Antonsson has not had any league action since a late substitute appearance in the 3-0 win against Rotherham on 2 January, and last wore a Leeds shirt when they were dumped out of the FA Cup by non-league Sutton on 29 January.

He has struggled for game time mainly due to the excellent form of main striker Chris Wood, who scored 30 goals in all competitions and was the Championship top scorer with 27.
