Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez has demanded a meeting with managing director Lee Charnley in the next 24 hours over the club’s transfer dealings but will not quit the club, according to the Northern Echo.

The newspaper report on their website that the Spanish boss is getting frustrated at the lack of movement from the Magpies, with reported deals for Tammy Abraham, Fabian Delph and Pepe Reina all failing to come to fruition.

As a result, it is claimed that Benitez and Charnley will meet shortly to discuss how the club is progressing with transfers, and why previous deals have fallen through.

The news comes just days after the Daily Mail reported that the 57-year-old’s future on Tyneside was in doubt as he grew frustrated over missing out on his top targets, although the Northern Echo claim the scenario is not that serious.

Benitez has seen just one arrival at St James’ Park this summer, securing a permanent deal for winger Christian Atsu after he impressed in the Championship during a loan spell from Premier League champions Chelsea.

However, the Mirror claimed last week that the Magpies are on the verge of securing an £10million deal for 26-year-old Eibar defender Florian Lejeune, with the former Manchester City man making 37 appearances on the way to a 10th placed finish for the Spanish side.
