Nottingham Forest have confirmed that goalkeeping coach Steve Sutton has left the club.

The 56-year-old won two League Cups in his playing days with the Reds and has been a part of the backroom staff since 2006.

However a statement on Forest’s official website confirms that his 11 years of service to the club has come to an end.

“I would like to wish Mark Warburton, the team and all the staff at the club all the best for the future. I have always had a strong affinity with this club and it will be hard to pull away but I strongly believe under the new owners and with Mark in charge, the club has a great opportunity to achieve the success it deserves,” said Sutton.

The senior Forest man made over 250 appearances in his 13-year-long playing career at the City Ground and also had spells at Coventry, Reading, Notts County and Birmingham.

He was pivotal in helping Karl Darlow, who has recently earned the Championship title with Newcastle, break into first-team football as well as Dimitar Evtimov and Jordan Smith who have been called into action this term due to a serious injury suffered by Stephen Henderson.

Warburton has been in charge of Forest since March and is likely to make big changes to his squad over the summer and it seems that even the backroom set-up could be susceptible to change.

Evangelos Marinakis has recently secured a successful takeover of the East Midlands outfit and is expected to help Warburton guide the club back in the right direction after narrowly avoiding relegation to League One this year.
