Des Lyttle believes that Nottingham Forest could face the prospect of losing Britt Assombalonga in the future.

The 24-year-old has struggled with injuries at the City Ground since signing from Peterborough in 2014 but has still managed quite an impressive goal scoring record.

Assombalonga has scored 30 goals across all competitions in just 69 appearances for the Reds in the last three years.

The recently-ended campaign was not his best outing in a Forest shirt but he still topped the club’s goal scoring charts with 14 strikes.

And Lyttle, 45, thinks that his potency in front of goal could attract attention from elsewhere in the upcoming transfer window.

“It’s been a bit stop start for him with injuries, but he looks capable of scoring 20-odd goals in a season, which means he’s probably going to be hard to keep hold of,” said the ex-Reds defender, as quoted by the Nottingham Post.

“But if they can keep hold of him and the midfielders and wide players can chip in with a few goals, hopefully they won’t be too far away.”

Assombalonga cost Forest £5.5million in 2014 after firing up an impressive goal scoring record with Peterborough where he netted 33 times in 58 games.

The striker was pivotal in helping Forest stay in the Championship this season as he scored four goals in the last three matches to help Mark Warburton and his men pick up a vital six points to keep them out of League One.

Forest survived with a last day 3-0 win against Ipswich, in which Assombalonga scored twice, as Blackburn were relegated on goal difference.
