Wolves to axe Lambert on Tuesday

Wolves will axe manager Paul Lambert on Tuesday, according to reporter Pat Murphy.

The BBC journalist claimed on his personal Twitter account that he understands the Black Country outfit will install Nuno Espirito Santo as their next boss and that he will bring in his own backroom staff in what will be a total “clear-out” of the club.

It is understood that the Wolves senior man’s exit will be announced on Tuesday morning.

The Mirror have previously reported that Wolves are eyeing up Santo to replace Lambert as he has been left frustrated by super-agent Jorge Mendes’ control on transfers.

It is said that Chinese owners Fosun denied Lambert of securing his own targets and have put their faith in Mendes, who is the agent of the incoming Portuguese manager, to find potential recruits.

Santo was relieved of his duties at European giants Porto last week after failing to secure any silverware with the club in his debut season.

He began his career with Rio Ave and took them to the Europa League for the first time in their history as he led them to two domestic cup finals.

The 43-year-old, a former goalkeeper for Deportivo and Porto, was then installed as Valencia manager, where he only lasted a year before ending up back at the Estadio Do Dragao.
