Noel Whelan has expressed his disappointment on Twitter at Garry Monk’s shock exit from Leeds United.
The BBC Radio Leeds pundit and former Elland Road striker revealed he was “saddened” at Monk’s resignation and hailed him for doing a “great job”.
Whelan insisted on his personal Twitter account on Thursday evening that it is now “very important” the Championship giants are able to secure the “right” manager to build on the progress made by the 38-year-old this season.
Ok so it’s been an eventful day , saddened at Gary monk leaving as he did a great job but it’s v important the next manager is right for us

Whelan was aware of the unhappiness of the fanbase, who were shattered when the official Leeds website announced early on Thursday afternoon that Monk had tendered his resignation.
But he urged supporters to “stay positive” as he suggested that the identity of the new manager could be positive for the club.
To take us forward and carry on the progression made last season , stay together peeps and stay positive let’s see what transpires MOT

Whelan’s views are held in high regard by Leeds supporters given his longstanding connection with the club.
In addition to his spell as a player at Elland Road, he now watches all of the Yorkshire outfit’s matches in his capacity as a pundit for BBC Radio Leeds.
Monk’s dramatic departure means that Leeds are once again searching for a new manager.
The former Swansea boss outlasted each of his six predecessors, who had all been sacked by former owner Massimo Cellino without completing a season in the dugout.
He transformed the fortunes of the teams by mounting a genuine promotion challenge and steering the club to seventh place in the Premier League, just one place and five points adrift of the play-offs.
