Cagliari defender Bruno Alves is set to undergo a medical at Rangers after jetting into Glasgow, according to Sky Sports Scotland

The broadcaster posted a message on their official Twitter account to report that Alves, 35, is on the verge of completing a transfer to the Scottish giants.

This comes after Sky Sports Italy correspondent Gianluca Di Marzio wrote on his personal website that the 35-year-old was set to put the finishing touches to a move to the Glasgow giants.

Di Marzio also stated that if terms were agreed between Alves and Rangers, Cagliari would release him from his contract.

This also follows the Glasgow Evening Times report on Tuesday which claimed that Rangers were set to complete the signing of the experienced centre-back “by the end of the week”.

Alves has been a mainstay in the heart of Cagliari’s defence this term, making 37 appearances in all competitions.

The 35-year-old is a true veteran having played more than 100 league and cup games for Fenerbahce, Porto and Zenit St Petersburg.

He has a glittering CV having won four league titles with Porto, a further two at Zenit and one during his spell at Fenerbahce.

Alves has also been capped 85 times by Portugal, scoring 11 goals, and he was part of their 2016 European Championship winning team.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha is looking to bolster his defensive options ahead of next season, and it looks as though Alves may become his first summer signing.
