Report: Wolves open talks with Santo, prepare to sack Lambert

|

Wolves manager Paul Lambert is a “dead man walking” and confirmation of his sacking is expected next week, according to a Mirror report.

The newspaper claims Wanderers are preparing to relieve current manager Lambert of his duties, and are “in talks” with Nuno Espirito Santo about becoming their new boss.

Espirito Santo is a client of super-agent, Jose Mendes, who is advising the club’s Chinese owners about appointing a new man in charge at Molineux.

The 43-year-old is available having earlier this week left Porto, where he won the league four times, and is reportedly keen on managing in England.

The former goalkeeper was sacked by the Portuguese giants after failing to win any trophies in his first season at the helm.

He previously managed Rio Ave, where he guided them to the runner up spot in Taca de Portugal and Taca de Liga, and he also had a spell at Valencia.

Lambert took the reins at Molineux in November 2016 and guided the club to a 15th-place finish in the Championship.

However the club rejected his British transfer targets, such as Tammy Abraham, Grant Hanley and Tom Lawrence, instead letting Mendes control their comings and goings.

The Mirror report also claims the super-agent will continue to control their recruitment, and is looking to sell £20million-rated Helder Costa this summer.
