Newcastle are keeping close tabs on Porto full-back Miguel Layun, according to Record.

The Portuguese newspaper claims that the Magpies are locked in a three way battle for the 28-year-old with Espanyol and Roma.

Layun only moved to the Estadio Do Dragao on a permanent deal last year after an initial loan move from Newcastle’s Premier League rivals Watford.

However he has struggled for game time in what has been a fairly poor season for European giants Porto as they failed to earn any silverware.

Manager Nuno Espirito Santo was sacked last week following a bad debut year in charge and now it seems that some of the players are attracting attention in the fall-out of a disastrous campaign.

Layun played 25 times in all competitions for Porto and hasn’t played since the 1-1 draw with Vitoria Setubal in mid-March.

Although playing as a full-back, on either the left or right side of defence, the 50-times Mexico international has contributed in attack with three goals and four assists in both league and European contests.

He also has a bit of Premier League experience to hand from his spell at Watford and played three times in the English top-flight, scoring one goal which came on his debut in the 2-2 draw with Everton at the start of last season while playing as a winger.
