Leeds United are on the verge of announcing that a player has signed a new contract, according to a BBC journalist.

Correspondent Adam Pope, who broadcasts on all the club’s matches for BBC Radio Leeds, took to Twitter to give some insight after United revealed that an announcement was imminent.

“Ready for some more Leeds news?” read a post on the club’s official Twitter account at 4pm on Wednesday.

With supporters excited at the possibility of a major announcement, Pope immediately reported on his personal Twitter account that his information is that a player has committed to extended terms at the Championship giants.

However, the experienced journalist and broadcaster did not expand on his message by revealing the identity of the player.

The announcement of the new deal is set to come just 24 hours after Leeds revealed that Andrea Radrizzani had completed his full takeover of the club.

The Italian sports media tycoon bought out Massimo Cellino’s half-share in the Elland Road outfit to take 100 per cent control after initially buying a 50 per cent stake in late December.

The deal means Cellino has stepped aside with immediate effect to bring to an end his controversial three-and-a-half year tenure at the club which has been marked by managerial sackings and run-ins with the football authorities.
