Rangers have a good chance of signing Vitoria Setubal defender Fabio Cardoso, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

Ladbrokes have priced the 23-year-old at a very short 4/5 to sign for Pedro Caixinha’s side, after a report claimed the Gers were closing in on signing him.

This comes after The Daily Mail claimed the Gers were eyeing a £1.25million move for the former Portugal Under-20 international, who still has three years to run on his current contract.

Cardoso came through the ranks at Benfica before moving to Pacos, where he impressed on loan before joining Vitoria last season.

Vitoria’s number four played a crucial part in his side’s impressive campaign that saw he and his teammates finish in a respectable 12th position and go on a sparkling cup run that saw them reach the last four of the League Cup.

Making 27 appearances in all competitions, Cardoso kept nine clean sheets and even found the back of the net on one occasion in a 2-0 win against Santi Clara back in October.

The Gers are likely to be in the market for a new central defender as veterans Clint Hill and Philippe Senderos are expected to leave the club on a free, with their current Ibrox contracts set to expire in less than a week.

Despite his young age, Cardoso has made more than 60 top-flight appearances and could be drafted in as Caixinha’s first summer signing in what is likely to be a busy summer for the 46-year-old manager.
