Ian Wright has blasted Leeds defender Charlie Taylor after he refused to play in the club’s final game of the season.

The 23-year-old skipped the last Championship game of the campaign away to Wigan and manager Garry Monk stated that he had been “poorly advised”.

He has been pushing for a move away from Elland Road and now looks set to depart when his contract expires in June.

The Express and Star claim that Taylor is nearing a switch to Premier League side West Brom as negotiations near completion.

It is understood that Taylor’s representatives and West Brom are settling terms before a pre-contract agreement is signed, in which a compensation fee of between £4million and £7million is paid.

Pundit Wright has slammed for his decision not to play for Leeds and believes it should be a sackable offence.

“For me, I don’t care what anyone says, that should be instantly like a sackable offence,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live. “They should be able to sack him, but the problem is that he will just probably go to another club, and another club will probably take him.

“But if I am a Leeds fans, I don’t want a player like that in my team. Whatever the excuse is, you don’t refuse to play.”

Taylor is a product of the Leeds academy and has made 104 senior appearances since breaking into the first team, with a number of loan spells also helping his development.

The Whites fans quite often adore players that have risen through their ranks, but have shown their anger towards Taylor following his rash decision at the weekend.

He now looks set to be leaving the Yorkshire giants on a negative note and will get the chance to prove himself in the Premier League, instead.

The Baggies are in desperate need of a conventional left-back and Taylor has proved himself to be an outstanding performer in the Championship recently.
