Alan Shearer believes that Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris and Manchester United’s David De Gea have been the best goalkeepers in the Premier League this season, but feels the former just edges it.

Chelsea shot stopper Thibaut Courtois beat his rivals to the golden glove award with 16 clean sheets in the Premier League, but Shearer has selected the Spurs number one as the best in the top flight this campaign.

Spurs’ captain has been in great form this year and helped his side to second in the Premier League table during their last ever season at White Hart Lane.

The 30-year-old kept 15 clean sheets in the league this year, but did miss four games out with injury and Mauricio Pochettino turned to his reliable understudy Michel Form.

Shearer feels that Lloris has been the best in the division during the year and highlighted the quality of the club’s entire backline.

“For me the best ‘keepers in the Premier League this season have been Hugo Lloris and David de Gea,” Shearer told Coral. “It is Lloris who edges it though, as he has been excellent along with his back four for Spurs and that is one of the reasons they have finished so high.

“Spurs have conceded fewer goals than any other side in the league this season so a lot of credit has to go the French ‘keeper.”

The Premier League is often criticised as having a shortage of superstars in, but the calibre of goalkeepers is arguably the best in the world.

United ace De Gea is considered to be the best in the division by many supporters, but has many rivals to the accolade of the best shot stopper.

Lloris has made a huge impact in English football since his arrival in 2012 from Lyon and become the first-choice option in goal for Spurs.

The France international is extremely confident in possession and also a great shot stopper.
