Versatile Liverpool player Lucas Leiva is the joint most likely player to join Celtic in the summer transfer window, according to a report.

Sky Sports’ transfer section regularly plugs its Football Whispers, which claimed on Monday afternoon that the Brazil international, 30, is the likeliest Parkhead arrival alongside his forward teammate Harry Wilson.

There have been recent reports that Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is planning a reunion with Lucas, who he managed during his three years at the helm at Liverpool.

The veteran performer, who has been used as often in a new defensive role under Jurgen Klopp as in the midfield anchorman position he has spent most of his career, is out of contract at Anfield next month.

Football Whispers, which gathers all transfer rumours across the globe and calculates the likelihood of them happening, rates it 1.3 out of 5 that Lucas will join Celtic, with five the highest possible ranking and meaning it is a certainty.

The 22-times Brazil international is equal in the ratings with Southampton defender Martin Caceres, who also has a rating of 1.3, while Liverpool attacker Wilson is rated at 1.1 to transfer to the Scottish giants this summer.

Wilson could be loaned out for next season by Liverpool to gain crucial match experience.
