Ibrox favourite Jim Bett has urged the Rangers board to back Pedro Caixinha this summer as his former side finished 39 points behind Celtic.

The Gers suffered five losses in their six Old Firm encounters in all competitions this season, as Brendan Rodgers inspired his side to a marvellous treble and an unbeaten season in domestic football.

According to the Scottish Sun, the Gers are looking to tie up a deal for Aberdeen captain Ryan Jack, with the 25-year-old set to see his Dons contract expire this week.

Speaking to the Scottish Herald, former Gers midfielder Bett believes the 54-time Scottish champions need much more than just Jack and claimed his side are in a sorry state of affairs.

“Rangers are in a bit of a state at the moment in general and it is no surprise their new coach is wanting to bring in his own signings and improve the quality of the side,” Bett said.

“But he will have to bring in far more than just Ryan to get Rangers back to where they have to be. From what I can see, he is short of quality at the minute and needs the backing of the board to change things.”

Caixinha is reportedly in talks to complete a number of deals, with the Scottish Sun claiming the Portuguese manager is looking to tie up deals for Benfica duo Daniel Candeias and Dalcio this week alongside Jack.

Rangers fans watched in horror this season as they failed to provide a challenge to the Hoops in the top tier of Scottish football, as Rodgers saw his side win the League title, League Cup and Scottish Cup.

Now, Bett has urged Caixinha to make the signings required to push the Gers towards their Old Firm rivals and believes Jack must only be the start of summer overhaul.

The 57-year-old played for the Gers for three years, playing in 104 league games before moving on to the likes of Hearts, Dundee United and Belgian outfit Lokeren.
