Celtic midfielder Ryan Christie has left the door open to a potential return to rivals Aberdeen next season.

The 22-year-old spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Pittodrie Stadium, where he scored seven goals and supplied three assists from 15 appearances.

He had been granted a temporary move away from Celtic by manager Brendan Rodgers, having made just seven appearances in all competitions in the run to up the January transfer window.

But with Christie set to return to Celtic this summer, the youngster has refused to rule out a potential return to Aberdeen next season.

When asked about a potential return to Aberdeen, he told the Evening Express: “I am not going to rule it out, that’s for sure because I have enjoyed my time at Aberdeen so much.

“If that is what it comes to, then it is definitely an option I will keep open. Right now in my head it is all about doing as well as I can in pre-season then we will take it from there.”

The former Scotland Under 21 international faces a tough task to force his way back into the first-team setup next term, but can plead his case to Rodgers over pre-season.

He will join up with the Celtic squad following the Scottish Cup Final clash with Aberdeen at Hampden on Saturday.

However, Christie will not be able to play any part in the fixture due to the conditions of his loan agreement, which forbids him from appearing against his parent club.

Therefore, he may well have already bid his final farewell to the Dons with an impressive display in the 6-0 win over Partick Thistle on Sunday, during which Christie bagged two goals and an assist.
