BBC pundit and former striker Steven Thompson has blasted Aberdeen forward Jayden Stockley after his physical play brought an end to Celtic star Kieran Tierney’s match on Saturday.

The Hoops earned a 2-1 win at Hampden Park in the Scottish Cup final with goals from Stuart Armstrong and Tom Rogic needed to cancel out an early Jonathan Hayes strike.

However, the match did also see 19-year-old Tierney leave the field after just 27 minutes following a connection with a flailing Stockley elbow.

The Dons striker did not receive a booking for the elbow, but the action has received many critics and one of those was ex-Rangers man Thompson, who told that Stockley didn’t “need to do that kind of thing.”

“You can be physically strong and use your body without being nasty. He doesn’t need to do that kind of thing. If Tierney does have to go off it’s an incredibly disappointing way to exit a Scottish Cup final,” told Thompson as quoted by the BBC Sport live match blog on Saturday (3.29pm).

Tierney is one of Celtic’s best players already at his young age and has been tipped to have a very bright future in the game.

Now, this injury is unlikely to keep him out for too long and with the season coming to it’s end the young star will have ample time to recover.

Celtic meanwhile will be delighted to have claimed a domestic treble in Brendan Rodgers’ first campaign in charge and the Hoops will now be looking to push further in Europe next season.
