Brendan Rodgers has made securing Stuart Armstrong to a new long-term deal his top priority this summer, according to the Scottish Herald.

The 25-year-old central midfielder is into the final year of his contract at the Glasgow giants with his current deal set to expire next summer.

Armstrong has lit up the Premiership since Rodgers’ appointment last summer with the Northern Irish boss electing to play him in a more central position.

This has reportedly seen him linked with a number of clubs from England and the Herald details that each of Brighton, Burnley and Everton have been credited with interest in the Hoops ace.

However, it is also stated that Rodgers is “optimistic” Armstrong will commit his future to Celtic this summer.

The one-time capped Scotland international has been at Celtic since joining from Dundee United alongside Gary Mackay-Steven.

He has played in 103 matches in total for the Bhoys, returning 23 goals and 19 assists with last season adding to those totals enormously after he returned 17 goals and seven assists in 47 matches in all competitions.

Armstrong was key to helping Celtic secure a domestic treble last season alongside going through the entirety of the campaign unbeaten in all three competitions and supporters will be urging the club to sign him up to a new deal.
