Aberdeen defender Mark Reynolds has issued a fiery response to Brendan Rodgers after his criticism of the club.

Celtic manager Rodgers had dismissed Aberdeen as a side guilty of playing a simple long-ball game following the 3-1 win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie earlier this month.

The two sides are set go head-to-head for the final time this season in the Scottish Cup Final on Saturday, and Reynolds believes Rodgers has his side all wrong.

Reynolds, 30, has warned the Celtic boss that there is much more to Aberdeen’s game under Derek McInnes than he seems to believe, and hints he could risk underestimating their quality.

He told the Daily Record: “We can play long-ball football but that’s just one way to go. We can pop it about, we’ve got pace so we can get it wide, we can go through the middle.

“We have a few strings to our bow. Hopefully he thinks we’ve just got the one and that will give us a wee advantage.

“Is there anything wrong with going long? Some people think there is but I don’t see an issue. If it gets you the win, it get you the win.”

The Dons finished an incredible 30 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership this term, despite securing a second-place finish.

The two Scottish giants have met on five occasions across all domestic competitions this season, with Celtic running out winners on each occasion.

Their undefeated record against Aberdeen this term included a victory over the Dons in the Scottish League Cup Final back in November, which set Celtic on their course for domestic treble glory.

Rodgers’ side can end their hunt for a first domestic treble since Martin O’Neill’s successful 2000-01 campaign, with a win over Aberdeen in Saturday’s Final.

This is not the first time this month that Aberdeen have been subject to criticism from one of their Scottish rivals, with Rangers chief Pedro Caixinha having claimed the club were nearing the ‘end of their cycle.’
