Real Betis have applauded Celtic on Twitter for remaining unbeaten throughout the 2016-17 season in the Scottish Premiership.

Celtic remained unbeaten for 38 league matches in Brendan Rodgers’ first season in charge of the 54-time Scottish champions, holding aloft the league title and league cup, with a Scottish Cup final still to play.

Posting on their official Twitter account, Betis described Celtic’s achievement as “amazing” before commenting “hail hail”in support of the side that wear the same colours.

The La Liga outfit and Rodgers’ Scottish champions have an unusual link, with one of Betis’ founders studying in Glasgow back in the early twentieth century, namely Manuel Asensio Ramos.

He admired the green and white colours, after Celtic first wore the Hoops in 1903, and decided to strip his new Betis side in the green and white of the Bhoys that he had watched back in Scotland.

Rodgers also saw his side defy the odds to hold their own in the Champions League group stages, earning three points against Man City, Barcelona and Borussia Monchengladbach with three draws.

Real Betis have not enjoyed such a prolific season, losing half of their La Liga fixtures and finishing in a lowly 15th place in Spain’s top flight.

Celtic still have the Scottish Cup final to play on Saturday, as they go up against second-placed Aberdeen at Hampden Park with Rodgers looking for his side to complete a sensational treble.
