International boss praises Celtic star Rogic

Australia manager Ange Postecoglou has praised Celtic for using Tom Rogic sparingly over the past few weeks which has allowed him to return to fitness.

The 24-year-old star missed four months of the season with an ankle injury and needed to undergo an operation in order to make a full recovery.

Rogic has made a gradual return to the side since his operation and played 45 minutes in the Hoops’ final league game of the season on Sunday as they beat Hearts 2-0.

The victory confirmed Celtic’s invincibles season and stretched their unbeaten domestic run to 46 games.

Postecoglou has recently named Rogic in his Socceroos squad for the World Cup qualifiers and Confederations Cup matches this summer against Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Germany, Cameroon and Chile.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, the manager said: “It’s good to see Tom playing again – Celtic have used him wisely and played him in bits and pieces since he came back from injury.

“He played his first 90 minutes at the weekend and I think they’d already planned for him to have a big June for us. The bonus is he won’t come in jaded after a long season.”

Despite his lengthy lay-off Rogic still managed to make 36 appearances in all competitions for the Bhoys, scoring 11 goals and supplying six assists.

The attacking midfielder was signed by Celtic in January 2013, and has 18 caps and four goals for his country.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have already secured a domestic double this season by winning the league and the Scottish League Cup, but they can make it a historic treble on Saturday if they beat Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final.
