Fortuna Sittard defender Perr Schuurs has arrived at Melwood to undergo a trial, according to a report.

Dutch outlet Voetbal International claim that the centre-back will spend “several days” training with the Reds and is set to be involved in some friendly matches.

It is understood that Jurgen Klopp’s side have jumped ahead of Premier League rivals Tottenham for the 17-year-old, who have scouted the highly rated youngster in the past.

The report details that Liverpool are yet to reach a concrete agreement for the player that has enjoyed a breakout year in the second tier of Dutch football.

However, German side RB Leipzig and Dutch giants PSV are also keen on the teenager, but he is yet to decide on his future and will do so after a trial on Merseyside.

Schuurs has made 24 senior appearances for Fortuna Sittard this season and is already impressing at the age of 17.

Several quality players have come out of the Dutch league in recent years and teams have moved quickly to try pick up the latest breakout star.

Liverpool may be looking to bolster their defence in the summer as it remains a constant concern for Klopp’s side.

They have shown a willingness to promote youth this season and that could well appeal to Schuurs, with the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ben Woodburn getting regular first team football.

Meanwhile, Spurs are an attractive outfit right now after securing second in the Premier League table and battling champions Chelsea for the title.

Mauricio Pochettino similarly has a talented young crop of players emerging and could be looking to add defensive back-up in the summer.

The Daily Star report that senior defender Kevin Wimmer is set to leave in the summer and Pochettino may need a replacement so he can deploy his favoured three-man backline.
