Young goalkeeper Sam Howes has sent a heartfelt goodbye to West Ham fans via his personal Twitter account on Sunday afternoon.

The Hammers issued their retained list last week via their official website following the season’s end and on their list of departures included 19-year-old shot-stopper Howes.

The teenager never made an appearance for the east London club’s first team, but he has been capped for England at Under-16, 18 and 19s level.

He had also been at West Ham since the age of 10 and was once named “Young Hammer of the Year.”

But, with the club making the decision to move Howes on this summer the youngster paid tribute to the West Ham fan base via his personal Twitter account in a long message which detailed that the supporters did not go unnoticed.

West Ham boast a very prestigious academy which has seen the likes of Bobby Moore, Michael Carrick, Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand and Jermain Defoe break through in the past.

However, Howes will not be included in that list of names and with both Darren Randolph and Adrian ahead of him in the Hammers goalkeeper pecking order it is clear why Bilic feels his future is better served elsewhere.
