Slaven Bilic salutes West Ham fans

|

Slaven Bilic has praised the West Ham supporters for sticking behind him and promised the players will do their max to take their performances to a new level next season.

The Hammers were unable to meet the heights of last season where they finished in seventh place in Bilic’s first full season in charge at the club.

West Ham finished the Premier League season in 11th position despite fighting against relegation for the majority of the campaign.

It was the first season where the Hammers would be playing at the new London Stadium but Bilic’s men failed to find consistency there throughout the season, only winning seven league matches at home.

Speaking with the official club website, Bilic thanked the fans for their support this year and promised them better displays in the upcoming season.

“They’ve been unbelievable and I would love to say a big ‘thank you’ to them,” he stated.

“It’s amazing how they treated me and I could feel they were really behind me and the whole team.

“They are tremendous fans and I can only promise them that I’m going to give my best and the team is going to do its best to do better next season and to give them more enjoyable games and moments because they definitely deserve it.”

Despite the poor performances on home soil, the West Ham fans played a massive role in some of the key victories at the London Stadium this season.

The Hammers beat eventual Premier League champions Chelsea 2-1 at home in the EFL Cup in November and this was followed by two consecutive 1-0 wins against relegation rivals Burnley and Hull City over the Christmas period.

In the penultimate league home match of the season, the Hammers faithful produced a stunning atmosphere and the players responded in kind as West Ham ended Tottenham’s slim title aspirations with a 1-0 victory at the beginning of May.
