West Ham have joined the race for Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny this summer, according to Il Mattino.

The Italian newspaper report that Arsenal are looking to offload the 27-year-old in the coming months, and that Premier League rivals West Ham are keen to take the £16million-rated stopper off their hands.

Szczesny is set to return to Arsenal after his loan deal at AS Roma expired, but it remains to be seen if the proven top flight performer will have a role to play in the first-team squad given his two-year absence from the setup.

Petr Cech was the undisputed No.1 at the Emirates last season, while David Ospina has served as deputy, leaving Szczesny facing the prospect of returning to a backup role at the club next season.

But West Ham, who are considering a move for a new stopper after a poor defensive display last term, could be set to open their doors to the Poland international.

Darren Randolph and Adrian have both struggled for consistency, with West Ham conceding 64 goals from their 38 Premier League matches last season.

Szczesny, meanwhile, was one of the leading figures for Roma during his back-to-back loan spells, where he kept 23 clean sheets from 81 appearances, and would be a reliable choice for Slaven Bilic.

However, there is also strong interest from Italy, where both Napoli and AC Milan are considering a bid to ensure the Arsenal man remains in Serie A.

A further report from Il Mattino claims that Napoli have already held discussions with the goalkeeper’s representatives, and have tabled a three-year-deal. A fee though, is reportedly yet to be agreed.
